Abdel-Gabar's 29 points and 8 assists give him Hoops Agents Player of the Week award- December 26, 2022
He had the game-high 29 points adding eight rebounds and eight assists for Al Hilal in his team's victory, helping them to edge out Kazma (#3, 0-1), the league's bottom-ranked team 96-92. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Thanks to this victory Al Hilal moved-up to the 2nd position in WASLn league. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Al Hilal won just one (their first) game. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Abdel-Gabar had a remarkable five three-pointers out of 7 attempts. He turned to be Al Hilal's top player in his first season with the team. University of Windsor graduate has very impressive stats this year. Abdel-Gabar is in league's top in points (3rd best: 29.0ppg), assists (4th best: 8.0apg) and averages solid 3.0spg and 71.4% from behind 3-point line. Second best performed player last round was Edgar Sosa (190-F-1988) of Al Naft. He is American-Dominican Rep. forward in his first season at Al Naft. In the last game Sosa recorded impressive double-double of 36 points and 10 assists. Of course he led Al Naft to another comfortable win outscoring Al Karameh (1-0) 89-66. The season is still at the very beginning and this victory may help a lot. Let's wait for the next round. Sosa is a newcomer at Al Naft and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 36.0ppg (#1). He also recorded 10.0 assists per game. Third place about best performers goes to swingman Brandon Austin (198-G/F-1994) of Al Nassr (#6). Austin scored 29 points and grabbed twelve rebounds (!!!). Despite Austin's great performance Al Nassr lost 72-75 to Al-Manama (#8, 0-1). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Al Nassr has a very good start of the season. But there was just one game played, so it's too early to judge them at this stage. Austin also has a very good start of the season with very strong stats. The season just started for Austin as he played only first game. But it already looks like he can be team's leader.
